Job Description


An individual who has extraordinary organizational skills, can manage and track  multiple overlapping projects and relationships, while  navigating competing interests, yet  find areas of alignment across teams with different functions and priorities. This may sound like a big charge, and it is. The successful candidate in this role will be responsible for fully owning the process for delivering large and varied grant funding for our EdSurge content teams, from prospecting to relationship building to closing and reporting on grant-funding projects. In addition, the Director of Development, EdSurge, is responsible for driving revenue efforts that include growing and sustaining grant funding for general operational purposes as well as for large scale projects. Just as important will be managing the team that brings in substantial revenue in the form of advertising, custom content, and a jobs board. This position plays a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing success of EdSurge, an independent editorial division of ISTE ASCD.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of professionals consisting of a Senior Sales Manager, Senior Project Manager, and Senior Partner Success Manager

  • Collaborate with colleagues to build proposals based on content strategy and team bandwidth, especially Journalism and Research, when structuring planned work for philanthropic funding

  • Maintain relationships with major supporters and build new relationships for long-term support

  • Represent EdSurge internally and externally with cross-functional partnerships colleagues, peer organizations, and industry stakeholders

Job Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Business, Nonprofit Management, or other related discipline’ Master’s degree preferred.

  • 5-10 years of work experience across education leadership, business partnerships, development, and project management. 

  • Must have philanthropic fundraising experience which includes grant writing. Experience working on funding education journalism or research is a plus.

Technical Skills:

  • Grant/proposal writing

  • Business development, especially philanthropic funding

  • Proficient with Google Suite, budgeting software, remote work team software

  • Familiarity with HubSpot, Salesforce, Google Analytics

  • Previous experience  managing and tracking multiple overlapping projects and relationships with varied deliverables

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage  teams with multiple layers, levels, and divergent competencies

  • Prior experience pitching ideas, solutions and products to varying audiences, reflecting the mission and vision of an organization
